Sitting vs Facing — Flying Star Feng Shui | Nova Masters Consulting

Sitting vs Facing

The cornerstone of Flying Star Feng Shui. Sitting anchors the back of the property, while facing looks outwards to the open world. Both must be read together to chart correctly.

What is Sitting?

The sitting direction is the orientation at the back of the building — the side that provides support, stability, and protection.

Key Points

  • Sitting is measured at the back of the property.
  • Represents support, ancestry, roots, and long-term foundation.
  • Always directly opposite the facing direction (180° apart).
Sitting: N2 (352.5°–7.5°)
Facing: S2 (172.5°–187.5°)

What is Facing?

The facing direction is the orientation at the front of the building — where energy, activity, and interaction with the environment occur.

Key Points

  • Facing is measured at the front or main opening (usually the main door).
  • Represents opportunities, career, wealth, and outward flow.
  • Always paired with its opposite sitting mountain.
Sitting: W2 (262.5°–277.5°)
Facing: E2 (82.5°–97.5°)

Why Both Matter

Flying Star charts cannot be drawn with facing alone. Sitting and facing together define the mountain star and facing star, which then fly across the nine palaces to produce the natal chart.

The interaction between sitting and facing influences how well a home balances support (people, health, stability) with activity (career, wealth, visibility).
