Solitary and Lonesome (孤辰 · 寡宿), or Gu Chen and Gua Su, are paired Year-Branch markers associated with autonomy, self-containment, emotional distance and the way a person regulates closeness and private space.
Independence can protect identity without preventing intimacy.
Gu Chen is the Branch immediately after a three-Branch seasonal group; Gua Su is the Branch immediately before it. Together they describe the boundaries surrounding that seasonal field.
In interpretation, the pair can raise questions about self-reliance, guardedness, private processing and the balance between space and connection.
Use the natal Year Branch, place it in one of four consecutive seasonal groups, then seek both target Branches anywhere in the natal chart or a declared timing layer.
