Masters and Historical Figures of East Asian Metaphysical Traditions
A guided index of astronomers, officials, philosophers, physicians, strategists and later legendary figures associated with calendars, cosmology, geomancy, statecraft and the transmission of related traditions.
One famous name may carry several different histories.
A profile should distinguish the person’s documented office or work from later technical attribution, literary memory, folklore and modern interpretation.
Establish the person
Identify period, place, office, surviving works and the quality of available evidence.
Name what is documented
Separate astronomy, calendar reform, philosophy, medicine, governance and technical practice.
Mark later associations
Do not present a later text, school or legend as the person’s verified authorship or practice.
Follow institutions and texts
Ask how knowledge moved through courts, schools, commentary, ritual offices, print and translation.
Preserve without confusing
Legends matter culturally, but should be labelled and not used as proof of historical method.
Translate with limits
Historical interest does not validate every contemporary claim made in a famous figure’s name.
