Dragon Virtue.Authority that restores order.
Dragon Virtue (龍德) is a favourable annual branch marker associated with respected assistance, institutional support and the ability to make a difficult situation more workable. This reference uses the twelve-position annual rotation: seven branches ahead of the anchor Year Branch.
Help becomes valuable when it improves the decision.
Traditional annual-star practice associates Long De with dignified support, constructive leadership, recognition and the easing of difficult circumstances. In practical terms, this may appear as a capable sponsor, a fair decision-maker, access to an institution, or the credibility needed to move a stalled matter forward.
The word “virtue” matters. The star is most useful as a reminder to act with restraint, clarity and responsibility—not as a promise that influence will excuse weak judgment. Authority can open a door; the chart holder still has to enter prepared.
Dragon Virtue belongs to an annual rotating-star convention. It should not be merged with Heavenly Virtue (天德), Duke Virtue (歲德), Heavenly Nobleman (天乙貴人) or the Grand Duke itself.
One anchor branch. One Dragon Virtue position.
Identify the relevant Year Branch, then locate the Dragon Virtue target seven positions ahead in the twelve-branch rotation.

Rotation rule: count the anchor branch as position one; Dragon Virtue occupies position seven ahead. In index notation, target = anchor + 7 modulo 12.
Name the layer before reading the star.
Set the question
Decide whether you are examining a natal marker or the distribution for a particular year.
Confirm the Year Branch
Use the Year Branch belonging to that chosen layer. Do not switch anchors midway.
Find the target
Move seven positions ahead or use the twelve-entry lookup table.
Read the domain
Locate the target Branch, then test its structure, interactions and real evidence.
Placement describes where support may operate.
Public environment
Networks, institutions, reputation, community and visible sources of assistance.
Work and systems
Career structures, managers, administration and support through organised roles.
Self and partnership
Personal judgment, close cooperation and the ability to repair a private difficulty.
Plans and execution
Projects, teams, advisers, children or assistance revealed through future action.
The same table can answer two different questions.
Birth Year Branch as anchor
Use the natal Year Branch to calculate a fixed Dragon Virtue target, then scan the natal pillars and later timing for that Branch.
- Describes a recurring support pattern
- Placement supplies the life domain
- Must remain secondary to full chart structure
Current Year Branch as anchor
Use the year under study to identify where Dragon Virtue is positioned in that year’s twelve-branch field.
- Describes a temporary annual emphasis
- Compare with natal and Luck-Pillar branches
- Do not present it as a permanent natal trait
A Wu Horse year places Dragon Virtue at Chou.
The calculation is mechanical. The interpretation still depends on context.
From annual anchor to useful question
A favourable marker strengthens a route—not every outcome.
No name matching
Dragon Virtue does not automatically sit on Chen, the Dragon branch. Use the lookup.
No mixed anchors
State whether the birth year or the year being studied supplies the Year Branch.
No guaranteed promotion
Recognition and authority remain dependent on competence, conduct and context.
No rescue fantasy
Support can improve a response; it does not cancel risk, consequence or preparation.
No isolated verdict
Read season, strength, Ten Gods and branch interactions before this secondary marker.
No system blending
Keep Long De distinct from similarly named Virtue, Nobleman and annual stars.
The mature reading is not “someone powerful will save me.” It is “where can credible help, sound procedure and responsible authority improve this situation?”

Use the marker precisely.
Is Dragon Virtue always on the Dragon branch?
No. “Dragon” is the star’s name, not its fixed location. Its target changes with the anchor Year Branch.
Is Dragon Virtue the same as Heavenly Virtue?
No. Dragon Virtue uses a Year-Branch annual rotation in this reference; Heavenly Virtue is derived from the Month Branch through a different table.
Can Dragon Virtue be used in a natal chart?
Yes, if the convention is stated clearly: use the birth Year Branch as the anchor and scan for the mapped target Branch. Keep that separate from an annual forecast.
What if the target branch is absent from my natal pillars?
The natal chart does not contain the marker under this presence test. The Branch may still arrive through a Luck Pillar or annual, monthly or daily timing.
Does Dragon Virtue cancel a difficult star?
No. It may suggest a route toward mitigation or support, but it does not erase the chart’s structure or real-world risk.
