䷙
Great Taming is not suppression for its own sake. It stores strength, develops judgment and prevents powerful capacity from being spent before the path is ready.
Core situation

Power becomes useful when restraint turns raw capacity into cultivated readiness.

Da Xu places Mountain above Heaven. Stillness contains creative force without diminishing it.

Restraint creates time for knowledge, character and capability to accumulate.

The aim is eventual release: once training and timing align, stored power can cross the great river.

Structural anatomy

Heaven within. Mountain without.

Creative strength is held by stillness. Containment becomes a chamber for learning, preparation and renewed virtue.

The judgment in four movements

Restrain. Accumulate. Cultivate. Release.

Da Xu converts restraint into capacity: strength is stored, knowledge gathered and virtue renewed until action can carry real consequence.

無妄

Act without fabrication

Remove the private story, manipulative agenda and imagined guarantee. Meet the actual situation directly.

動而健

Join movement to strength

Natural action is not passivity. It moves decisively because the inner motive and outer principle are aligned.

利貞

Make restraint correct

Containment must cultivate capacity and serve a defined purpose, not become fear of action.

匪正有眚

Do not force an exhausted course

When timing or direction is wrong, further action creates error even if the original intention felt pure.

Image principle: Thunder moves beneath Heaven and all beings receive their natural integrity. The ancient kings aligned with the seasons and nourished the myriad things.

Received text and interpretive layers

Freedom from falsity aligns movement with the mandate of Heaven.

卦辭 · Hexagram statement

The governing proposition

大畜:利貞。不家食,吉。利涉大川。

Stored capacity should eventually serve beyond private comfort.

彖傳 · Commentary on the Judgment

Strength is made substantial through restraint

大畜,剛健篤實輝光,日新其德。剛上而尚賢,能止健,大正也。不家食吉,養賢也。利涉大川,應乎天也。

Great Taming is firm, strong, substantial and luminous, renewing virtue daily. Strength is honoured above, and vigorous force can be stopped.

Capacity becomes public value when talent is nourished and prepared for demanding passage.

大象傳 · The Great Image

Store precedent to cultivate virtue

天在山中,大畜;君子以多識前言往行,以畜其德。

Heaven within Mountain forms Great Taming. The cultivated person studies earlier words and past conduct in order to accumulate virtue.

Knowledge of precedent enlarges judgment before power is released.
