The core premise

“Lunar chart” is convenient shorthand—not the method.

The traditional Chinese calendar coordinates lunar months with the solar year. BaZi uses its stem–branch framework, yet the chart is not produced simply by converting a birth date into a lunar date.

Seasonal boundaries establish the year and month pillars. A continuous sexagenary count establishes the day. The hour pillar is derived from the local time branch and the Day Stem.

The correct question is not “lunar or solar?” It is “which calendar rule controls this pillar?”
