How to Build a Natal Flying Star ChartThe property’s permanent time–space signature
Build the natal chart once—correctly—then keep it fixed. Annual, monthly, daily, and hourly stars layer over it for timing; they do not replace the property’s permanent structure.
Before construction
Three inputs must be trustworthy.
A beautifully formatted chart is still wrong if its frontage, Mountain, Period, or floor-plan mapping is wrong.
Measured Facing
Identify the active frontage, record the azimuth accurately, assign its 24 Mountain, and confirm the Sitting 180° opposite.

Use the main interior mass, align the grid to the facing line, and mark doors, beds, stove, desks, and circulation.

Confirm completion, first occupation, and any major structural works that could affect the property’s Period.

Use the active frontage rather than assuming the door defines Facing. Record the exact degree and Mountain.
Determine the Period
Use completion or first occupation. Evaluate substantial structural renovation carefully before re-perioding.
Draw nine palaces
Overlay a proportional 3×3 Luo Shu grid on the usable interior and align it to the facing axis.
Assign three star layers
Populate Base, Facing/Water, and Mountain stars using one internally consistent lineage method.
Add time overlays
Keep the natal chart fixed, then layer annual, monthly, daily, and hourly stars for timing.
Inside each palace
Three numbers. Three roles.
The same palace can support people differently from activity. Separate the layers before interpreting combinations.
Base Star
Sets the underlying time-energy context of the palace and interacts with the two functional star layers.
Mountain Star
Relates most closely to people, health, relationships, human support, rest, and still rooms such as bedrooms.
Facing / Water Star
Relates most closely to movement, opportunity, wealth flow, visibility, doors, entrances, offices, and active rooms.

Axis
Sitting and Facing are exactly 180° apart and occupy the correct 24-Mountain segments.
Period
The Base flight matches the intended Period template and the chosen lineage’s rules.
Flight
Mountain and Facing stars follow the expected sequence and occupy the correct palaces.
Functions
Doors, beds, stove, desks, active zones, and external forms are mapped accurately.
School-neutral principle: Forward and reverse flights, seeding, and detailed assignment can vary by lineage. Do not mix rules from different schools. Use a verified calculator or practitioner when the method is uncertain.
Worked structures
Two common chart-building scenarios.
Period 9 · Facing E2 Mao
- Confirm E2 Facing at 82.5°–97.5° and W2 Sitting opposite.
- Completion and first occupation in 2025 establish Period 9.
- Overlay the grid; mark East entrance, Southwest bedroom, and South kitchen.
- Populate Base, Facing, and Mountain flights consistently.
- Read the Southwest bedroom with Mountain priority, then add overlays.
Period 8 home · Major works in 2024
- Original completion in 2010 indicates Period 8.
- Roof opening, structural alteration, and door relocation may create a Period question.
- Document the scope, completion, reopening, and occupation after works.
- Build comparison readings only with a consistent lineage standard.
- Test which chart matches enduring form and lived results; do not re-period casually.
Edge cases & field notes
Keep the main structure clear.
Chart the main mass
For L-shapes or extensions, establish the principal building body, then annotate missing and extended palaces by use and volume.
Separate reference from use
Facing comes from the active frontage, not simply the busiest door. Apply the same axis floor by floor and note vertical relationships.
Form must support intent
Facing-star activity benefits from suitable openness and flow; Mountain-star support benefits from stable backing and calm form.
