Flying Star Periods 1–9 — The 20-Year Time Cycles
Flying Star operates on nine repeating 20-year Periods. Your home’s chart is anchored to the Period when it was effectively “born” (roof sealed / enclosed), or “reborn” after a qualifying renovation. We are in Period 9 (2024–2043).
Quick Timeline (1864 → 2043)
Nine 20-year Periods cycle continuously. Below are the standard civil year spans used by most practitioners.
Note: Some masters anchor to specific solar markers when a new Period begins. For practical usage, the civil year spans above are sufficient. If your house was completed right at a boundary, see the FAQ.
Period 1 (1864–1883)
Water Qi
- Signals beginnings, seed-stage growth, movement, communication.
- Emphasis on flow, transport, trade routes, information channels.
- Water star strengths show in North-aligned frontages.
Period 2 (1884–1903)
Earth Qi
- Stability, nourishment, supportive roles, logistics.
- Often associated with caretaking, real assets, agriculture/land.
- Earth stars become structurally influential.
Period 3 (1904–1923)
Wood Qi
- Expansion, push forward, pioneering movement.
- Projects demand courage; competition rises.
- East sectors become more active and defining.

- Macro events can imprint strongly on charts of this era.
- Center dynamics affect the whole grid noticeably.

- Authority, systems, order, large organizations and infrastructure.
- Northwest influences: leadership, structure, institution-building.

- Commerce, branding, distribution, media amplification.
- West qualities: deals, networks, packaging, mobility.
- Late-period decline can bring quality vs speed trade-offs.
Period 8 (2004–2023)
Earth Qi
- Real estate, logistics, supply chains, long-horizon assets.
- Northeast qualities: endurance, platform-building.
- Homes born here often favor steady accumulation.
Period 9 (2024–2043)
Fire Qi
- Visibility, reputation, innovation, digital media, optics.
- South qualities: exposure, clarity, brand, influence.
- Expect faster cycles; alignment and timing matter more.
How Your House Gets Its Period
- Birth: The Period locks when the building becomes a sealed, enclosed space (roof on, windows/doors installed), or upon first occupation—whichever marks effective completion.
- Rebirth (Renovation): Works that open the roof or large external walls—exposing interiors to sky/wind—can reset the chart to the current Period after re-sealing.
- Cosmetic Works: Flooring, cabinetry, repainting, and minor internal changes typically don’t change the Period.
Tip: Document with photos and dates (roof removal, wall opening, re-sealing). If in doubt, test both charts against lived events and pick the one that explains reality better.
Transition & Edge Cases
- Boundary Years: If completion/occupation straddles Period 8→9, analyze both charts.
- Staged Projects: For phased builds, use the date when your unit became enclosed—as your decisive marker.
- High-rise: The unit’s own enclosure timing dominates (not the entire tower’s TOP alone).
Reminder: Accurate Sitting vs Facing + correct Period = a chart you can trust.
