The Nine Periods of Time
Flying Star Feng Shui runs on nine repeating 20-year cycles called Periods. Each Period shifts which stars are timely, changing how homes, offices, and cities prosper.
What Are the Nine Periods?
Each Period lasts 20 years. Together they form a 180-year mega-cycle. We are currently in Period 9 (2024–2043).
Why Periods Matter
“Timely” stars gain strength during their Period. For example, Star 8 (Earth) was timely in Period 8, favoring stability, property, and grounded growth. In Period 9, Star 9 (Fire) becomes timely — emphasizing recognition, influence, brand, and rapid amplification.
How Is a Property’s Period Determined?
A building’s Period is set when its Qi is activated — typically at construction completion or a qualifying renovation.
General Rules
- New builds: The Period corresponds to the completion/first-occupation date.
- Major renovations: A property can “change Period” if renovations significantly open the structure (e.g., roof replacement, major walls removed, main door relocated) and Qi is re-activated after works.
- Minor works: Paint, flooring, or cabinet changes usually do not change the Period.
- Activation: After qualifying works, Qi is “invited in” — e.g., by opening doors/windows for a defined duration after completion.
Practitioners differ on thresholds. When in doubt, chart both Periods and validate against lived outcomes.
Quick Self-Check
- When was the property built or first occupied?
- Were there major structural works after 2004 or 2024?
- Was the roof opened or main entrance relocated?
- Did the space undergo a formal “Qi activation” after works?
Reading Timely vs. Untimely Stars
Timely stars are favored during their Period; untimely stars need careful handling.
Period Lens
- Period 8 (2004–2023): Star 8 was the prime wealth/people star. Mountain-8 and Water-8 formations were powerful.
- Period 9 (2024–2043): Star 9 rises. Sectors holding 9 in the facing/water positions benefit visibility and growth; mountain-9 strengthens people, brand, recognition.
- Transitions: Stars 1 and 8 retain residual usefulness early in Period 9, but interpretations must shift toward Li-Fire themes.
Common Mistakes
- Using the wrong Period: Assuming Period 8 when a qualifying renovation actually shifted the house to Period 9.
- Ignoring activation: Major works without proper Qi activation may leave charts inconclusive.
- Copy-pasting Period 8 logic: Remedies and formations must be updated for Period 9 emphasis (visibility, networks, reputation).
