Flying Star Feng Shui—Xuan Kong Fei Xing—maps numbered patterns through the nine palaces of the Luo Shu. It adds time to direction, explaining why the same room can perform differently across buildings and cycles.
Definition
A dynamic branch of classical Feng Shui.
The “stars” are not physical stars. They are numbers representing recurring qualities of time and place. Their positions are calculated from a building’s construction or major-renovation Period and its measured sitting and facing orientation.
Nine Luo Shu palaces
A floor plan is divided into the center and eight directional sectors so star patterns can be related to doors, rooms, beds, desks, and activity.
Stars “fly” by sequence
Numbers move through the palaces according to defined patterns. Natal stars remain with the building while visiting stars change with time.
Timely or untimely
A number is not permanently lucky or unlucky. Period, combination, landform, room use, and activation determine how it is read.

Cycles change emphasis
Twenty-year Periods shape the natal chart. Annual and monthly stars add temporary opportunity, pressure, and timing.

Form makes the chart active
Doors, windows, roads, water, hills, room function, movement, light, and renovation influence how a combination expresses.
Natal chart anatomy

A complete natal chart separates the building’s underlying time pattern from its people and activity dimensions.
Base Star
The underlying time-star framework of the palace. It provides context but is not interpreted alone.
Mountain Star
Most closely associated with people, support, health, rest, relationships, and stillness when form can receive it.
Facing Star
Most closely associated with movement, doors, activity, opportunity, wealth flow, and outward engagement.
Correct reading order
Form first. Natal chart second. Timing third.
A star number by itself is not a verdict. Reliable analysis moves from the physical site to the permanent chart, then to temporary overlays and measured outcomes.

Flying Star in Period 9.
A different natal structure
Buildings completed or substantially reborn in Period 9 can carry a different chart from Period 8 properties.
Do not change Period casually
A calendar change alone does not automatically make every older building a Period 9 building.
Older stars still matter
Star 8 and every other number retain meaning; their timeliness, combinations, location, and use must be reassessed.
Common misconceptions
What Flying Star is—and is not.
Direction alone is insufficient. The natal chart, door, external form, room use, and current Period determine suitability.
Annual stars are a temporary overlay placed onto a property’s unique natal chart and real floor plan.
Room function, movement, light, quiet, maintenance, behavior, and physical form usually matter more than decorative objects.
Flying Star is a traditional decision framework, not a promise of wealth, health, relationships, safety, or success.
